Healthier Carb Substitutions

I love carbs. Any attempt to eat healthier has to involve some sort of carbs for me. I can go without for small amounts of time but as a realistic lifestyle change there’s no way I’m going to eliminate them completely. If you’re looking for keto diet or carb free alternatives these are not them. However, they are a healthier version of the plain bleached flour non-food carbs that we usually see on the shelves. Eating them sparingly seems like a fine approach in my book!

When we started the Arbonne thing we ended up trying to find some substitutes for our favorite food items that weren’t the healthiest options. Here’s a list of products that can be great alternatives to the originals.

CHIPS:

These aren’t carb free options but are some healthier versions of carbs for snacking.

Beanitos-   About 130 calories and appx 15g carbs per serving, gluten free, 4g protein, non gmo, made from beans instead of corn/potatoes. The Hint of Lime is my favorite for a classic tortilla chip replacement. You can also grab a variety 6 pack for good kids lunch snack alternatives.

From the Ground Up Cauliflower Chips– these are non gmo, gluten free, 130 calories and 19g of carbs. They also have flavors like Sour Cream and Onion.

Off the beaten path bean chips– these are higher in carbs but I love them. They’re made of rice, peas, and black beans. Gluten free, plant based, non gmo, 4 g of protein. You can find these in big box stores usually too.

TORTILLAS:

Siete Cassava & Chia grain free tortillas- all around good tortilla texture

Egglife wraps– grain and dairy free, good amount of protein 5g and 25 calories, excellent wrap alternative!

PASTA:

Jovial gluten free brown rice fusilli– organic, best texture for a gluten free pasta that we’ve found so far, these are gluten free, non gmo, 5 g of protein

GoGo Quinoa macaroni– You can also usually grab this from Costco, vegan, corn free, non gmo, great taste and texture for a combo quinoa, carbs for serving size better than most other pastas and more protein too. This is our go-to replacement for spaghetti nights.

RICE:

Minute rice multigrain medley with brown rice, wild rice, and quinoa. Easy to prepare bags, fast, awesome as a recipe starter to throw in some veggies and chicken or as a side dish

Seeds of Change– quinoa and brown rice, again not great on carbs but a good non gmo alternative easy to pair with veggies and protein.
